We are offering an opportunity to join our senior team in the Newlands Day Surgery Unit at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup and are looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic and motivated registered nurse or ODP.

The Newlands Day Surgery Unit at Queen Mary’s, Sidcup is made up of 2 theatres and a 12 bedded ward which operates Monday to Friday specialising in ophthalmic and maxillo-facial surgery.  The unit caters to adult patients only.

You will be able to show evidence of extensive recovery and scrub practitioner experience ideally within the Day Surgery setting, and experience within ophthalmology is essential. You will be able to show evidence however consideration would be given to candidates who can show expansive clinical experience within a surgical ward or department.   You will hold a UK recognised Degree in Nursing (or equivalent), or be able to demonstrate Level 6 study and the commitment to completion of the degree level pathway (level 6 study) once in post. It is also essential that you hold a mentorship qualification. You will have substantive senior nursing/ODP experience working in a similar clinical environment at Band 6 and you will be a clinical expert with demonstrable evidence of managing change and service improvement and have proven management and leadership skills. You will be working in a dynamic senior nursing and management team and will be supported by the Matron and Divisional Heads of Nursing.

To succeed you must have strong leadership skills, be highly confident, have excellent communication skills, proficient IT skills, a flexible pro-active approach and be able to manage a varied and demanding workload, as well as, supervise and develop others.

In turn we will offer you the ability to advance your management and leadership skills and aim to provide you with a high standard of training both in the clinical area through our Practice Development Team and through our Kings Partners Higher Education Institutions.

This is a full-time post with no night shifts or on-calls although you may be required to work the occasional Saturday shift.
