We are delighted to be able to invite applications for a junior clinical fellow/Senior House Officer post with an interest in Acute Medicine, based at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) near Bromley in Kent.

The hospital is part of the world-famous Kings College Hospital Foundation Trust and is situated in the leafy suburb of Bromley with easy access to central London as well as the Kent countryside. There are many excellent schools, restaurants and shopping facilities close by.

The successful post-holder would support the development of our acute medical unit and ambulatory emergency care unit. The post would be suitable for a doctor wishing to develop their foundation skills into a core medicine level and would provide an excellent opportunity for someone who wishes to apply for Core Medical Training in the UK at ST1 level in time. Applicants from the UK or overseas would be welcome.

The acute medical unit (AMU) at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) is a 56 bedded unit comprising an Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU) for initial assessment for referrals to medicine (28 beds) and a short stay unit (Medical Ward 9) for patients with an expected length of stay of 72 hours or less (28 beds).

The medical take sees an average of 50-60 patients per day.

You will join our dedicated and friendly acute medical team. We provide excellent junior doctor support at Senior House Officer and FY1 level, as well as educational and clinical supervision, study leave and the opportunity to develop and change practice as you develop your portfolio and career. You may also have the opportunity to develop your own Quality Improvement project.

You will join a group of 28 Clinical Fellows who support at an SHO level across general medicine and will take part in an on call rota which will give you the opportunity to manage a wide range of acute medical conditions both within the Acute unit as well as back end wards – you will see a full range of medical conditions and have a real opportunity to develop your foundation skills. You will be supported by a team of 8 acute medicine consultants as well as the on call medical consultants. Opportunities to rotate into Emergency Medicine or Post-Acute Medicine will be available in time should individuals wish to take their skills into a more specialist area during their employment.

In addition, you will have access to the Post Graduate Education Centre on the PRUH site and to the various post graduate courses available.
