An opportunity has arisen to join the virology and infectious diseases consultant team at King’s College Hospital based at Denmark Hill as a 9 PA consultant.

King’s College Hospital is a large teaching hospital delivering services across three sites (Denmark Hill; Princess Royal University Hospital and Orpington Hospital) and is one of the largest foundation Trusts in the country. It serves a wide local population from Southwark, Lambeth and Bromley and Bexley. In addition to providing a broad range of services to the local community, the hospital also has a large number of Regional services covering the Southeast and a number of national and internationally recognised specialist services including Haemato-Oncology that provides bone marrow transplantation and CAR-T cell programmes, Neurosciences, Paediatric and Adult Liver Transplantation, Cardiac and Foetal Medicine.

As a Trust our ambition is to be an outstanding local hospital for the local community and a world-class centre of specialist clinical and research excellence. Additionally, we work with King’s College London to offer training, education and clinical placements for medical, nursing and dental students. We are also proud to be a founding member of King’s Health Partners, a collaboration to deliver bench to bedside solutions to improve patient health and wellbeing.

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated consultant, dually accredited with CCT (or within 6 months of CCT date) in both Infectious Diseases and Virology, for this 9 PA role.

The South London Specialist Virology Centre within Viapath Infection Sciences at KCH is a UKAS ISO 15189:2012 accredited department. The large serology and molecular diagnostics service has been developed to ensure a full portfolio of tests are available to achieve a rapid diagnosis in a complex patient population.

This is the first post with an Infectious Diseases component in King’s. The post-holder is expected to work particularly closely with the Haematology team with respect to the Transplant Infection service. The post is based on the Denmark Hill site but the post-holder may be asked to work on and provide support at the Princess Royal site in Bromley if required.

Potential applicants are welcome to visit the department and discuss this post.

Closing Date: 10/11/2019, midnight.

AAC Interview Date: 10/12/2019.

Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
