We are looking for a highly enthusiastic cardiac physiologist to join our expansive non-invasive cardiac departments and echo facilities. The cardiac non-invasive diagnostic department performs over 30,000 non-invasive procedures per annum and 4,000 visits to the CRM device clinic. The echo department features the latest cardiac ultrasound equipment in an all-encompassing digital echo lab. It provides transthoracic, TOE, 3-D, DSE and stress exercise echo and contrast studies for all specialties in the Trust. King’s College Hospital is a renowned research institution and encourages participation in new and ongoing projects. Our Cardiac Catheter labs perform complex electrophysiology studies, complex device implants and advanced coronary interventional procedures including TAVIs and primary angioplasty.
This is a role within the divisional structure, designed to strengthen leadership, research, clinical competency and education within the Cardiac Department at King's and other associated Trusts.
The post holder will be expected to be an expert in at least one field of clinical physiology (interventional Cardiology, complex device implants and follow up, electrophysiology/ arrhythmia diagnostics) or echocardiography and contribute clinically on a regular basis.
The post holder will support the Head of Cardiac Physiology and Consultant Clinical Scientist and work closely with the Principal Cardiac Physiologists in CRM and Echo; to provide leadership for and to manage the entire technical and administrative team, ensuring the smooth running of an efficient and effective service; will deputise for the Head of Cardiac Physiology in their absence.
The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating training/ education and competency of staff and PTP/ STP/ ERASMUS trainees in conjunction with the lead physiologist for education; and will be responsible to organise and co-ordinate departmental accreditation for IQUIPS and NSHCS.
Key requirements of this position are:
- Qualified in Clinical Physiology/ Cardiology to RCCP standards
- MSc level qualification
- Advanced level professional studies in specialist techniques in EPS/ implantable devices/ Echo (BHRS/ IBRHE/ NASPE/ BSE) or another complex area of Cardiac Physiology
- Strong leadership and team building skills
- Able to relate and communicate with staff all levels and from different professions Ability to teach at a level commensurate with this grade
- Understanding of issues pertinent to the education of physiologists
- Previous experience of demonstrable skills in first line management
