King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s largest and busiest teaching Trusts with a turnover of c£1 billion, 1.5 million patient contacts a year and more than 12,800 staff based across 5 main sites in South East London. The Trust provides a full range of local hospital services across its different sites, and specialist services from King’s College Hospital (KCH) sites at Denmark Hill in Camberwell and at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) site in the London Borough of Bromley.

The dynamic Physiotherapy department at King’s College Hospital is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic physiotherapist to join the rotation of Band 6 physiotherapists specialising in acute medicine and elderly rehabilitation. The Physiotherapist within the medical pathway is overseen by 2 Clinical Lead Physiotherapists specialising in acute medicine and elderly rehabilitation.  The community services also have their own Clinical Leads with excellent links between the acute trust and Guy’s and St Thomas’s Community Trust. This creates good opportunities for shared learning, service development and research across the medical pathway. You will work closely with experienced Band 7s, a Clinical Team Lead, Band 5s and assistants.

The rotations are 7-8 monthly and are in the following areas:
• Acute Medical Unit – 7/7 service
• Acute Frailty Unit -7/7 service
• Emergency Department including Clinical Decision Unit – 7/7 service
• Acute Health & Ageing Unit (Short Stay Elderly Care Ward – 7/7 service)
• General Medical ward - 7/7 service
• Health & Aging Unit (Elderly Rehabilitation ward – 7/7 service)
• King’s Older Persons’ Assessment Unit (out-patients)
• Community Physiotherapy Services
• Orthopaedics
• Cardiology and Cardiothoracic in-patients
• Renal in-patients
• Cardiac and renal out-patients
• Haematology in-patients
• Other relevant rotations as they arise

As well as gaining valuable experience throughout the medical pathway and specialist medicine, you will also get an opportunity to develop your managerial and supervisory skills. Continuing professional development is encouraged through the appraisal system and there is a well-established in service education programme. Attendance at post registration courses is supported and there are comprehensive library and computer facilities on site.

King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a large trust providing specialist services to the region and also serving a large local population. There are over 130 physiotherapy staff working on three sites, however a cohesive team approach is maintained through regular in-service training and staff meetings. Students are also regularly on placement from local universities.

We invite applications from HCPC-registered Physiotherapists with a very sound all-round experience, including acute medicine, elderly rehab, neurological and respiratory rotations at Band 5 level as well as a good insight into falls services and discharge planning.

The work pattern includes weekends and extended hours as required.

This job is unlikely to attract a work permit. Applications from candidates who require a permit to work in the UK may not be considered if there are a sufficient number of other suitable candidates.

This job advert will be closed once sufficient applicants have been received and the limit on the supporting statement is 1000 words.
