King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s largest and busiest teaching Trusts with a turnover of £1 billion, 1.5 million patient contacts a year and more than 12,800 staff based across 5 main sites in South East London. The Trust provides a full range of local hospital services across its different sites, and specialist services from King’s College Hospital (KCH) sites at Denmark Hill in Camberwell and at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) site in the London Borough of Bromley.
London’s Sexual Assault Referral Centre, The Havens, are recruiting two 6 PA consultant paediatricians with experience in safeguarding and child sexual abuse to provide clinical leadership of the Havens children and young person’s specialist service. Each paediatrician will have a significant role in the provision of medical examinations of children disclosing sexual abuse, follow-up services and ensuring appropriate liaison with multi-agency services.
The posts will primarily be based at King’s College Hospital where a purpose built unit is incorporated into the current Haven site. Each paediatrician will also provide clinical delivery at the other two Haven sites particularly a new facility based at St Charles Hospital near Ladbroke Grove.
Forensic medical examinations of children will continue be provided in the Havens’ forensic suites. The paediatrician will contribute to providing paediatric expertise to these forensic examinations, usually working alongside a team of forensic medical examiners and crisis workers.
We are seeking to recruit consultants with appropriate expertise who will serve an important role in shaping the future of the service as it continues to develop.
These roles will suit those with acute general paediatric or community paediatric expertise, a subspecialty interest in safeguarding including expertise in the medical management of child sexual abuse.
You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent to be eligible for interview.
The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years), therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, and as such, it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
