King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s largest and busiest teaching hospitals with over 1.5 million patient contacts a year and more than 13,000 staff based across five main sites in South East London and Kent.

The Trust provides a full range of local hospital services across its different sites, and specialist services from King’s College Hospital (KCH) site in Camberwell and the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) site in Bromley, Orpington Hospital, and some services at Beckenham Beacon and Queen Mary’s Sidcup.

The Trust is recognised internationally for its work in liver disease and transplantation, neurosciences, cardiac, haemato-oncology, fetal medicine, stroke, major trauma, and Emergency Department.

King’s is a key partner in one of London's foremost Academic Health Science Centres, King's Health Partners (KHP). KHP is one of only six Department of Health-designated AHSCs in England. It brings together a world-leading research-led university – King’s College London – and three successful NHS Foundation Trusts: King’s College Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas’, and South London and Maudsley.

This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of our dedicated workforce and join one of the largest and most successful Foundation Trusts in the UK with an international reputation for innovation and the desire to make a difference.

Applications are invited for a 1 wte NHS Consultant post in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (KCH). The successful candidate will have established leadership and team-working qualities and will be expected to play an active role in the provision and delivery of healthcare for patients who need treatment in the fields of surgery for non-melanotic skin cancers, minimally invasive salivary gland surgery, dento-alveolar surgery, facial deformity surgery and facial trauma.

The department plays an active role in King’s Major Trauma Centre and operates over 3 sites: Denmark Hill, Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) in Bromley and Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup (QMS). The successful candidate will be expected to cover clinical activities at all KCH and King’s Health Partners sites. At Denmark Hill a main emphasis of the post will be the provision of Oral & Maxillofacial trauma services both within and out of normal working hours and all in-patient operating whereas the scope of work at QMS/PRUH will mainly consist of dento-alveolar, skin and endoscopic salivary gland surgery. It is important that the successful candidate has sufficient experience in endoscopic salivary gland surgery as she/he will be expected to build up a minimally invasive salivary gland surgery service at QMS.

There are 8 full time equivalent consultant posts, 4 ST3+ posts, a Senior Clinical Fellowship (Trauma and Facial Deformity) post and 2 Staff Grades in Oral Surgery in the department. At a junior level there are 9 full time Dental Core Trainees, 2 full time Core Surgical Trainees and 6 wte specialty doctors to cover night shifts.

A UK registerable dental degree, registration on the GMC Specialist Register in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery or within 6 months of eligibility for inclusion and the possession of a Certificate of Accreditation or eligibility for a CST in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery are mandatory.

The successful candidate will be expected to be skilled and confident enough to cover the whole range of the specialty at consultant level including on-call on a 1:8 basis together with a dually qualified SpR grade and a junior colleague with a dental or a medical degree.
