Applications are invited for this post of Lead Biomedical Scientist/Service Manager in Liver Histopathology at the Institute of Liver Studies, Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, London.

The Liver Histopathology laboratory provides specialist liver histopathology service to the Liver Transplantation service, adult and paediatric hepatobiliary services and paediatric liver and gastrointestinal services, and is an internationally recognised centre of scientific investigation.

The specialist nature of this centre, the complexity of the cases referred and the major role of histology in both the diagnosis and the management of liver patients require the application of the most sophisticated techniques to the biopsy and cytology specimens and therefore a high degree of technical expertise is necessary.

The post holder shall be technically in charge of the histology laboratory in management and appraisal of technical/scientific staff, undertake service and R&D activities in accordance with requirements set by the Laboratory director and Clinical lead. You will also be required to lead and organise accreditation related activities in conjunction with Liver Pathology quality manager.

You will need to be a good communicator, willing to learn, with good attention to detail, and to work well in a busy team environment. Previous experience in this role is desirable.

King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is an innovative, successful university teaching hospital based in South East London and this is a time of rapid and significant change. This is an exciting opportunity for an established professional self-starter.

The Institute of Liver Studies at King’s encompasses clinical service and academic activities (undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and overlapping research) in adult and paediatric hepatology, hepatobiliary surgery and liver transplantation. It was established in 1966 and is the largest specialist centre in Europe for the treatment of Liver disease. Patients both from the UK and abroad are admitted for treatment.
