Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Speech and Language Therapist Band 5 (rotational posts)

King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of London’s largest and busiest teaching hospitals with a unique profile of strong local services and a focused set of tertiary specialties. We have an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist on our Denmark Hill site and are also hoping to recruit to a Band 5 waiting list for posts which may come up over the next few months on any of our sites.   The Denmark Hill post is available immediately therefore applicants must be qualified with HCPC registration at the time they apply.

All King’s Band 5 posts are rotational working on one or more of our in-patient teams. The successful post holder will provide Speech and Language Therapy services within a clinical specialty during each rotation, remaining within that area(s) for a maximum of 9 months in order to develop a wide knowledge base and range of skills.  There are 5 rotations on the Denmark Hill site: Heath & Ageing, Critical care, Stroke, Medicine and Neurosurgery and 4 rotations on the PRUH/Orpington sites: Medicine, Frailty, Neuro Rehab  and Stroke.

The SLT service offers a comprehensive supervision and CPD with a range of opportunities for learning and participation in both self and service development. There is a strong emphasis on the management of both communication and swallowing difficulties and the impact of SLT within the acute setting. Posts require a flexible approach to working and some rotations require the post holder to work as part of a rota’d seven day working pattern.

King’s employs 40 Speech and Language Therapists across our Denmark Hill, Princess Royal and Orpington sites. The majority of staff are employed within adult inpatients – both acute and rehabilitation.  There is also a small outpatient Neurology service and inpatient Paediatric provision.

King’s College Hospital has a large Therapy department with over 400 therapists from Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech & Language Therapy and Nutrition & Dietetics. Each service is organised under a Head of Profession with a Director of Therapies heading up the service and representing Therapies across the Trust.  The department has a well-established provision of education and training, supervision and appraisal, ensuring that all staff have opportunities to develop their skills and knowledge and to reach their full potential.

Closing date: 2 weeks after placement of advert (but may close sooner if an appropriate number and quality of applications is received)

Interview Date: Tuesday 8th January 2019.  Unfortunately alternative dates are not available.  Please note that Kings is unable to offer Skype interviews.
