CONSULTANT PHYSICIANS IN CLINICAL GERONTOLOGY & FRAILTY (2 POSTS)

The Department of Clinical Gerontology at the Princess Royal University Hospital, a division of Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, is looking for enthusiastic and committed physicians with a passion for patient centred, fully integrated Gerontology /Frailty care to join our friendly and progressive team.
The successful candidates will be on Specialist Register for Geriatric Medicine OR GIM with evidence of broad experience in all aspects of geriatric medicine and interest in obtaining further qualifications in post. As such, candidates with other subspecialty areas of expertise are encouraged to apply.
The Princess Royal University Hospital has 525 beds with further beds at Orpington Hospital, serving the local population of the London Borough of Bromley and surrounding areas. The hospitals are based in in leafy suburban town of Orpington, a highly sought after location due to its close proximity to many well-regarded primary, secondary and Grammar schools in addition to restaurants, cafes and bars. It is minutes away from Bromley town centre which has extensive retail and leisure facilities and regularly appears in the list of the annual top 50 places to live in the UK.The Kent Countryside is in close proximity offering peace and quiet and recreational activities.Many staff live in the local area, enhancing the community spirit within the hospitals.For those who live further afield, the area is served by fast rail links to central London and a good local bus service in addition to being 20 minutes’ drive from the M25.
The post provides an exciting range of opportunities from Acute Frailty to community outreach and liaison. This includes working on an annual rotational basis across the Acute Frailty Unit on the PRUH site and the new Community Facing Frailty Wards at Orpington Hospital.There will be many opportunities to help develop clinical pathways, GP liaison systems and MDT working in the community to provide excellent patient centred care and experience to the frail local population, including those in Care Homes.We have forged strong links with the three GP-led Integrated Care Networks in Bromley, and post holders attend weekly Multidisciplinary Team Meetings within one of the networks. The post holders will work closely with colleagues in ED, Acute Medicine and OPAL service to ensure the frailest patients are managed appropriately to ensure safe admission avoidance or admission within the frailty bed base.

The 10 PA post includes 8.5 PAs for DCC, 1 SPA for revalidation and 0.5 PA for specialist interests/ responsibilities with additional SPA time for educational supervision that can be agreed at job planning. The job plan includes the out-of-hours on call rota for general medicine.
