Staff Nurse: Neurosciences - Orpington Hospital

Clinical Neurosciences is a major department of the clinical services delivered by Kings College hospital that supports the trauma centre and the stroke services and has an international reputation for motor neurone disease, movement and neuromuscular disorder and neuro surgery.

We have the whole range of Neuroscience experiences for Band 5 staff nurses within the following departments:

We are supported by a dedicated neuro outpatient department, Neuroradiology, Neuro physiology, Neuro pathology and a pre assessment lounge

We now have a helipad to improve access for emergency patients, and we will have dedicated neuro ITU beds with an expanded ITU 60 bedded facility, Kings is a level 1 Trauma Centre and Hyper Acute Stroke Unit serving South East London and beyond.

There are exciting opportunities to become part of this future now with the opportunity to expand on your existing nursing experience by moving into neuroscience nursing care in a variety of neuro settings from acute phase to rehabilitation.

We are looking for Band 5 nurses that are interested in developing their skills in the care of stroke patients at the Princess Royal Hospital. Also Ontario Ward at Orpington hospital, 14 beds for level 2B neuro-rehabilitation and 6 beds for post neuro-surgical step down from Denmark Hill.

Experience in neuroscience nursing is highly desirable, but if you have post registration experience in an acute setting and would like the opportunity to learn new skills there is lots to learn and we have strong links with the clinical research facility and will actively support your development.

We strongly support staff education and there is a Neuroscience Nursing course where staff rotate through the different ward areas to see the whole picture from admission to rehabilitation and feedback we have had is that we have the best practice development support in neuro, with a strong clinical nurse specialist team and development days for all grades of staff.

Neuroscience nursing is a vocation, if you have high standards, compassion, excellent communication skills and are interested in making a difference to patient care this may be the role for you.
