Rheumatology Consultant

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a full time (10 PAs) Consultant Rheumatologist based at our Bromley sites at Orpington Hospital and Princess Royal University Hospital (part of Kings’ College Hospital). The consultant will deliver clinics, acute rheumatology in reach and clinical supervision as part of a team of 5 consultants, 2 specialist nurses and 2 registrar grade doctors.

The rheumatology department is integrated with the departments at King’s Denmark Hill and King’s Bexley Sites. We run shared clinical governance and clinical effectiveness meetings and some consultants work across sites. Orpington Hospital is an elective centre with a focus on outpatient clinics, elective surgery and inpatient rehabilitation. The Princess Royal University is our larger acute hospital.

The Orpington site has specialist clinics in early arthritis, metabolic bone diseases and connective tissue diseases. The department has developed close links with the department at Kings College Hospital so that there are pathways to discuss complex patients in MDT settings and to access specialist tests. There are opportunities within the department to lead on developing clinical trials at Orpington and to run our clinical effectiveness programme.

This post is a specialist rheumatology post and the candidate will also contribute 1 session to the acute medical take rota at the Princess Royal University Hospital. Singly qualified candidates may be considered with discussion, but dually qualified candidates able to support the medical take will be considered very favourably.  This is a 10 PA position however applicants looking for part time/job share should contact the department to discuss.

The Bromley area is a leafy outer suburb of London with well-regarded residential areas, exceptional state and private schools and excellent transport links to central London. The hospitals are friendly and supportive places to work. There is an engaged consultant committee and regular social events.
