The service is outpatient focussed, with facilities for day care and in-patient care when needed. The service currently sees in the region of 2,500 new patients and 11,000 follow-up outpatient cases annually.

The post holder will provide outpatient clinics as well as supporting the care of inpatients. There will be opportunities for an appropriately qualified candidate to lead the inflammatory arthritis ultrasound service at the Denmark Hill site and to take on additional management responsibilities if desired. The department has a strong focus on clinical research and therefore seeks a candidate who has a higher research degree. It is anticipated that the successful applicant would be able to support the research unit, and therefore a strong research background is essential.

This is a part-time consultant post to enable the department to provide a safe and effective outpatient and inpatient rheumatology service for patients with a range of inflammatory arthritis conditions. This post will support the acute hospital with timely review of emergency and inpatient referrals, meet the 18 week referral to treatment and early arthritis access targets, support the teaching and training of junior medical staff and the academic research environment. The department has a strong focus on clinical research and therefore seeks a candidate who has a higher research degree. It is anticipated that although this role is part-time, the successful applicant would be able to support the research unit, and therefore a strong research background is essential.
