The Havens are London’s Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs) based in Camberwell, Paddington and Whitechapel. We have a strong partnership with the Metropolitan Police Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command.

The Havens’ Children and Young People’s service (CYPHavens) supports children and adolescents when there are recent concerns about sexual assault/abuse. We provide expertise in holistic care of children and young people including assessment of injuries, forensic and medico-legal work, safeguarding, sexual health, counselling, psychology, advocacy and other specialist support.

This post has been created to provide additional paediatric support CYPHavens. The post will be based at King’s College Hospital where a newly re-furbished unit provides paediatric medical examinations (after recent assault) and follow-up for children disclosing (or where there are concerns about) sexual abuse. The paediatric specialty doctor will have a key role in the provision of clinical services and for liaison with local services.

Forensic medical examinations are provided in the Havens’ forensic suites. The paediatrician will contribute to providing paediatric expertise to these forensic examinations, usually working alongside a team of forensic medical examiners and crisis workers.

We are seeking to recruit paediatric specialty doctor with appropriate expertise who will support our service that has been operating since May 2016. They will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes Family Nurse Advocates and Child Psychologists.

These roles will suit those with acute general or community paediatric or general practice experience and an interest in safeguarding.

There will be clinical responsibility and potential need to travel at times to the other two Haven sites - Haven Paddington and Haven Whitechapel- based in St Mary’s Hospital and the Royal London Hospital respectively. There will be additional responsibility to work with the Family Nurse Advocate in relation to clinical oversight and participation in liaison and teaching with our partners in health, police, Children Services and other agencies in relation to children who have been seen in the Havens. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the out of hours rota- a minimum of two shifts per month.

The Haven Paediatric Service is in the process of a complete revision alongside revision of child sexual assault services across London.
