CLINICAL FELLOW IN VASCULAR SURGERY Start date: ASAP This initial 6 month post renewable for one year thereafter offers advanced training in vascular surgery. This post is designed to support the clinical activities of the Department of Vascular Surgery at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and at Bromley campus. The post is not recognised for pre-CCST training but is designed to provide advanced experience in vascular surgery. The Department of Vascular Surgery at King’s is a tertiary referral unit which serves a population of 2 million and is one of the busiest in the country.

With the presence of two hyper-acute stroke units (HASU) the department perform on average 100 carotid endarterectomies and 20 carotid artery stenting per year. With the presence of the busiest diabetic foot clinic in the UK founded by Prof M. Edmonds in 1984, the department performs on average 150 complex bypass procedures and 400 distal endovascular procedures per year. It provides the full range of vascular surgery, including carotid surgery and carotid artery stenting peripheral vascular reconstruction and ultra-distal bypass surgery and complex vascular access for haemodialysis.

The endovascular abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysm repair, complex open aortic surgery is done by the our team in a Hybrid theatre at St Thomas Hospital. The post-holder should be at the experience level of at least ST5 level. The post holder should also be able to demonstrate experience in all aspects of vascular surgery and also be competent in emergency and Vascular Trauma surgery. King’s is a Major Trauma Centre and the post holder will participate in SpR on call vascular emergency and vascular trauma.

The department offers excellent opportunities for clinical research and candidates with a proven research interest and track record will be preferred. Commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching is mandatory.

Please note the salary scale for this post is subject to change and will be confirmed to you once finalised. However, this will most likely be in accordance with the junior doctor’s salary scale implemented by the Trust from August 2016.
