Foundation Pharmacist - SE London Foundation Pharmacist Vocational Training Scheme (SEL FP VTS)

(37.5 Hours/Full-time)

(3 Year Fixed Term Contract)

We have an exciting opportunity for you to be part of the innovative South East London Foundation Pharmacist Vocational Training Scheme (SEL FP VTS). The SEL FP VTS aims to develop patient-centred, competent pharmacy practitioners who are flexible and resourceful, and capable of working across multiple sectors of pharmacy practice, to support NHS workforce requirements.

The Health Education England (HEE)-commissioned project is working collaboratively with multi-sector partners to provide foundation pharmacists with multi-disciplinary experience across different sectors of pharmacy, underpinned by a competency framework.

We are looking for a Foundation Pharmacist who is interested in developing a flexible career and gaining experience working across different sectors of pharmacy - hospital, community and primary care. During the hospital sector placement, as a foundation pharmacist you will have the opportunity to gain experience in multiple areas of practice, both clinical and operational. In primary care and community pharmacy, you will be able to gain experience working as a community pharmacist and in other primary care settings such as GP practices, managing patients in different primary care settings and developing relationships with other healthcare professionals to support patient’s needs.

As part of this pilot, in years 1 and 2, the foundation pharmacist will complete a structured training programme accredited by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. The vocational ‘on the job’ training and competency framework will enable you to develop the knowledge, skills and professional behaviours required to work successfully across all sectors, to better deliver safe and competent medicines optimisation and patient-centred care. In addition, trainees who successfully complete the competency framework will have the opportunity to work towards an independent prescribing qualification, as part of year 3 of the training programme. Throughout this training journey, the SEL FP VTS foundation pharmacist has a designated Educational Supervisor, whose role is to support the trainee to achieve the required clinical and educational progress, and to provide pastoral care and career guidance.

The post requires a highly motivated pharmacist who is committed to their own personal development and is able to identify, manage and lead their own training requirements. The successful candidate must be willing to work in different sectors of pharmacy (hospital, community, primary care) and should also be flexible, have excellent communication, interpersonal, and time management skills. The postholder must also be keen to be part of one of the first novel and exciting multi-sector training programme pilots to shape the future of foundation pharmacist training in England.

For this post the applicant must be a registered pharmacist and be available to start work from June/July 2018 onwards.

Please note that as part of this training programme, the successful candidate will be employed by Kings College Hospital but will start their job role and training in the community pharmacy sector.

The postholder must be able to travel across SE London and Kent in all partner sites.
