King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in South East London is a large teaching hospital and is at the forefront of academic and nursing excellence. The Emergency Department (ED) is one of the busiest in London, and sees approximately 140,000 patients per year including nearly 30,000 children and young people. As a Major Trauma Centre (MTC) for South East London and a Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) the ED now has a 10 bedded resuscitation area with a nursing ratio of 2:1 and is one of the busiest MTC’s in the country. In addition to our adult areas we have dedicated facilities for children open 24 hours a day staffed by specialist children’s nurses. Our friendly and talented team delivers high quality emergency care to children and young people presenting with a broad spectrum of conditions. We are committed to developing our staff and have strong links with King’s College London, London South Bank University and University of Greenwich. We also have an ED dedicated Practice Development Team across the adult and children’s areas. We are able to offer mentorship, ED and ENP courses, CPPD money is also available for BSc and Masters level postgraduate education. In addition we have a wealth of resuscitation courses on offer including ALS, EPLS, APLS, ATNC and the new Trauma Team Members and Trauma Team Leaders simulation courses as well as a raft of in-house training. There is also the opportunity for staff to access our onsite Resuscitation Officers and Trauma Nurse Coordinators who offer ongoing support in terms of professional growth and development.
King’s is striving to innovate and develop emergency nursing, we have established Trauma Nurse Coordinators team who are based in the ED and manage and plan care for trauma patients through their entire hospital stay. The Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) role is currently established in the Majors area. Finally, as an Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC) we are seeking to establish the ED as an academic and research department with the support of our critical care colleagues. We have a dedicated ED research nurses led by our ED Consultant Nurse and ED Consultant research lead.

Located within the ED, the Urgent Care service is looking for dedicated, enthusiastic and appropriately qualified ENP’s and ECP's to work as Urgent Care Practitioners. You will be working in an exciting and challenging new environment delivering high quality care and expert advice to patients who attend ED but whose needs are best met by urgent care 24 hours per day.
As ECPs/ENPs we have an ever increasing scope of practice and treat both adults and children with a wide range of presentations. We are committed to on-going professional development opportunities and will offer you clinical support and training as well as the opportunity to develop your career and scope of practice.
This is a great opportunity for practitioners looking to add urgent care work and skills to their portfolio and to work in a fast pace challenging role.
Candidates should have experience working autonomously within an ED/UCC/WIC, be educated to degree level and hold a recognised Minor Injury and Illness Course. Independent prescribing is desirable but not essential.
As a senior member of staff you will play an important part in both leadership and teaching for medical and nursing staff within the department. You should also have excellent communication skills, be flexible, enthusiastic and passionate about meeting healthcare needs of the local community and meet all aspects of the job description.
