This is a replacement consultant post due to  retirement of the current post holder.  The post is based at Princess Royal University Hospital and suites candidates with either Medical Microbiology and or dual Medical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases accreditation (or expected to be accredited within 6 months).

King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, part of King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre (AHSC), is one of the UK’s largest and busiest teaching hospitals with a turnover of nearly £1 billion, 1.5 million patients contacts per year and more than 11,500 staff based across 5 main sites in South East London.

The Trust provides a full range of local hospital services across its different sites and specialist services from King’s College Hospital (KCH) sites in Camberwell and the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) in Bromley.

The Trust has a strong and committed leadership team which is driving the organisation’s turnaround and has been recognised as one of the fastest in the country. Committed to delivering the highest quality of patient care, investment in pathology services in the form of talented professionals is coupled with continued strong growth and service development both as a stand-alone service and through collaborative partnership with the Denmark Hill site and via the King’s Health Partnership. We are proud of the high quality patient care we deliver in which our community has confidence and are committed to valuing all of our staff as individuals and helping each to realise their full potential. Although based at the Princess Royal Hospital site there are plenty of opportunities for joint working across the Denmark Hill and PRUH sites.

The Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) serves the London Borough of Bromley in South East London which is the largest of the London boroughs with the largest green belt. Bromley has an increasingly diverse and affluent population. The area benefits from affordable housing, excellent local schools (including state grammar and independent options) and has quick and easy access to both Central London and the Kent countryside.

The remit of the post holder will be to deliver Infection services for in-patients and the local CCG as part of a team of three microbiology consultants based at the PRUH. There are opportunities to be the lead on Infection Prevention and Control, Antimicrobials Stewardship or Laboratory Clinical Governance and Quality lead.  The post is for 10 PAs per week with Category A availability on call Supplement. You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent at interview stage.

The post holder would be expected to be fully involved with all aspects of delivering a high standard of patient centered clinical microbiology service, playing an active role in providing multi-disciplinary  input to clinical teams across the Trust.
