Senior Sister Charge Nurse Paediatric Emergency Department - Band 7
King’s College Hospital Emergency Department at Denmark Hill see over 140,000 attendances each year with over 32,000 paediatric attendances. As a major trauma centre, the Trust is currently undergoing a wide-ranging transformational programme, encompassing service redesign. As part of this redesign we will be expanding our paediatric department to include a purpose built Paediatric Clinical Decisions Unit and provide additional capacity within our paediatric emergency department.
We are looking to recruit highly motivated, innovative, nurses with excellent leadership, communication, clinical knowledge and skills, who are able to demonstrate their suitability and experience for the position of Senior Sister or Charge Nurse. You will need to be flexible, enthusiastic and passionate about emergency care and be committed to improving service delivery, and developing nursing practices for the children, young people and families who utilise our services.
As a Team Leader you will beresponsible for ensuring the delivery of quality, safe and effective care to our service users across the Paediatric Emergency Department on a shift-by-shift basis, and in guiding and supporting junior staff in providing this care. Ensuring compliance with national standards for patient care will form part of your responsibility, as will review and development of clinical practices within the department. You will be an effective team leader and a positive role model for more junior members of the team. We have an established Band 7 team which allows us to ensure they also have exposure to managing individual clinical areas of the PED, as well as undertaking the overall in-charge role. In addition you will be managerially responsible for a small group of nurses with the support of the Matron.You will be fully supported by the senior Children’s Nursing Team.
We are committed to developing staff and have strong links with the local universities. The Paediatric ED nursing team has a practice Development Nurse. We provide comprehensive trust and local inductions, shadowing and competency programmes. Suitable training in order to facilitate all aspects of the job description will be provided.
