CONSULTANT ANAESTHETIST(With an interest in Neuro Anaesthesia)The Department of Anaesthesia at King’s Denmark Hill (DH) is one of the busiest in the country giving approximately 43,000 anaesthetics per annum.
The acquisition of the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) including two theatres at Sidcup, and re-opening the orthopaedic hub at Orpington as a focused elective site has enlarged the department by over a quarter allowing for an increased diversity of ideas and opportunities.It incorporates all major specialties including Cardio-thoracic, Liver, Paediatrics, and Neurological Surgery, as well as Chronic and Acute Pain Relief.
There is also an active Liver Transplantation program for which King’s is world famous.
The Department is innovative and forward looking and has enjoyed considerable expansion in the past few years. There is a rotational programme for Core and Specialist Trainee Registrars within the South Thames Deanery. There are also a number of research posts (both medical and non-medical) associated with the Pain Research Group and the Liver Transplantation Programme.The department is part of the Urgent and Planned Care Division which comprises: Acute & Emergency Care, Post-Acute & Planned Medicine + Outpatients, Therapy, Rehabilitation & Allied Clinical Services, Pharmacy, Dental, Planned Surgical, Ophthalmology & Optometry, Theatres & Anaesthetics and Women’s Health.
Consultant in Neuroanaesthesia (10 PA)
King’s College Hospital requires a full time Consultant Neuro Anaesthetist to support the delivery of the Anaesthetic services across the sites within the Trust.The remit of the post holder will be to work flexibly within the multi–disciplinary team providing and further developing care for patients requiring anaesthesia for major elective and emergency neurosurgical procedures, and neuro imaging anaesthesia. Candidates with an interest and additional experience of neuro anaesthesia are particularly welcomed i.e. post-fellowship or advanced experience in neuro anaesthesia.The individual will also be required to play an active role in the general workload of the Anaesthetic Department while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.
The post holder will be based mainly at the DH site but may work flexibly across the KCH sites. There will be 7.5 Programmed Activities of Direct Clinical Care, with the remainder being allocated for On Call (1PA), Supporting Professional (CPD 1 SPA) and/or other Activities (0.5 SPA/PA). The post holder will join the Neuroanaesthetic Consultant on-call rota at DH which is a 1 in 8 non-resident rota at weekends and 1 in 8 weekday on-calls.
The post-holder is required to be fully registered with the General Medical Council and on the Specialist Register at the date of interview, or be on a recognised training programme and within six months of being eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register.
