Staff Nurse - Neurosciences (Friend's Stroke Unit)

King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of two Stroke Centres in the South East of London providing 24 hour access to Hyper Acute Care, TIA services, specialist interventions and stroke unit care. We are one of the top five hyper acute stroke units in the UK.

Our care is provided in a seamless fashion with patients being assessed on admission to ED, admitted to the Hyper Acute stroke unit and then progressing during their stay to discharge or Stroke Rehabilitation either within Kings or at the patient’s local hospital.

Friends Stroke Unit is composed of 12 monitored beds, 17 stroke rehabilitation beds and a day case unit.
Neurosciences at Kings is supported by a dedicated neuro outpatient department, Neuroradiology, Neuro physiology, Neuro pathology and a pre assessment lounge.

Plans for the future are exciting as we plan to open a helipad to improve access for emergency patients, and we will have dedicated neuro ITU beds within an expanded 60 bedded ITU facility, which will see Kings become a level 1 Trauma Centre and Hyper Acute Stroke Unit serving South East London and beyond.
There are exciting opportunities to become part of this future now with the opportunity to expand on your existing nursing experience by moving into neuroscience nursing care in a variety of neuro settings from acute phase to rehabilitation.

We are looking for Band 5 nurses that are interested in developing their skills in the care of stroke patients at the Kings College Hospital Denmark Hill.
Experience in neuroscience nursing is highly desirable, but if you have post registration experience in an acute setting and would like the opportunity to learn new skills there is lots to learn and we have strong links with the clinical research facility and will actively support your development.

We strongly support staff education and there is a Neuroscience Nursing course, and a stroke nurse course. Feedback we have had is that we have the best practice development support in neuro, with a strong clinical nurse specialist team and development days for all grades of staff.

Neuro science nursing is a vocation, if you have high standards, compassion, excellent communication skills and are interested in making a difference to patient care this may be the role for you.
Newly qualified nurses are also welcome.
